Sampa BJJ In-house Tournament
The Jiu-Jitsu In-house tournaments are great opportunities to examine all facets of your Jiu-Jitsu training. They provide an opportunity to test yourself with new challengers who have varying styles in the sport. Regardless of your path in Jiu-Jitsu, in-house competitions are an outstanding compliment to your regular training. They give a fresh viewpoint on your entire game. It highlights the areas you need improvement with the aim of strengthening your game. And convey valuable learnings that empower you to take your competition spirit to the next level.
Thus, last weekend we had our Sampa in-house tournaments at Sampa BJJ Academy. This is to encourage all of our students & team members to participate & compete. The weekend was actually full of tournaments in Socal and Brazil. Our sponsored athlete Mr. Richard Nogueria competed in Brazilian Nationals & got the 2nd position. We are really very happy for him.
Our Sampa Jiu Jitsu In-house tournament had an amazing turnout. After reading our article on the importance of tournament many of our BJJ parents encouraged their kids to participate. So that their child can learn how to function in a stress situation and control their nerves. Not only kids but adults also engaged more in the in-house tournament after the article.
We had over 60 people from Sampa BJJ competing BJJ & Muay Thai on our In-house tournament. It was an amazing experience for the students as well as for our Sampa BJJ coaches. The coaches were very thrilled to see their students performing greatly at the tournament. Especially the juniors program that showed their level best. They showed great skills and great techniques. Many submissions and takedowns too that were really very impressive.
Not only watching their student’s performance. Our coaches have got a chance to experience how to run a tournament. They also get the wonderful experience of refereeing a tournament.
It was great to have Professor Nathan as the leader of the referees at our tournament. He is very helpful on the competition site as well as on the refereeing site. He is one of the main referees here in Sothern California. Also, he has been refereeing in many tournaments like World Jiu Jitsu Pro League, Abu Dhabi World Pro Jiu-Jitsu Championship & NABJJF.
The kids that competed in this in-house tournament really had a blast. They get an opportunity to compete with their fellow Sampa students. We try to make them compete at least 3 times. Some did only 2 depending on their level/maturity.
We did have some mismatches here & there because we don’t have a huge amount of people competing like regular tournaments have.
But overall, it was a great experience to see our students competing. They showcased their techniques and what they have learned all these years. As well as how they react trying to control their nerves and stress. It was great to see also the adults attendance. After 5 years organizing In-house tournaments, we had the 2nd best number of competitors overall.
The Muay Thai attendance was also another one of the best. Sampa BJJ decided to do the Muay Thai like an exhibition. We had everyone going three rounds against everyone. The students loved the experience.
We really want to thank the parents for supporting their kids. We appreciate adults & kids for participating in this tournament. Students really had a blast. This in-house tournament really helps kids boosting up their confidence.
Now we are looking out for our next tournament. It will be a No-Gi grappling and Muay Thai competition. The tournament is going to be held on August 26.
Stay tuned to know more about our No-Gi grappling tournament coming up in August. Call us 626-335-4971 (Glendora) or 626-977-1050 (Walnut). Our students from these two locations always participate in our In-house Tournaments.
